Winghaven Park

SYNOPSIS

During the tensions and uncertainties of World War 2, Vera Webster, entertainer and movie star, returns to Vashon Island and her childhood home, Winghaven Park, on a War Bond tour.   The story explores the relationship of Vera and her sister Lily, estranged for many years by a family secret. 

 

A layered plot weaves together forgotten romance, the destruction of war, racial tensions, and a young girl’s quest for a mysterious music box.  ​

 

Song styles range from swing, blues, musical comedy, and lush ballads.

Current News

A sold out 2022 workshop production propelled Winghaven Park to a November 2023 industry reading in New York City featuring Broadway talent directed by Gabriel Barre (for Broadway, Off Broadway, and UK credits visit gabrielbarre.com) with Louis Hobson as executive producer (Bonnie & Clyde (West End), Death Note (West End), Grey House (Broadway)).  

Future plans are underway for an Autumn 2024 presentation in London  featuring a UK cast.

Themes and Cultural Relevance in Winghaven Park

True love requires courage and honesty in order to survive.  Winghaven Park explores the journey from individual ambition and fulfillment to the strength, sacrifice, and healing of community.

Lisa Peretti BIO

Lisa returned to her Vashon Island roots in 2017.   After professional training in Musical Theatre and Acting at Mountview Theatre Academy (London) and later earning an M.A. in Performance Studies from King’s College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Lisa studied playwriting with playwright Stephen Jeffreys.​  Lisa's professional memberships include British Actor’s Equity, BMI (songwriter-lyricist), and The Dramatists Guild of America.​

As a young professional, Lisa toured the UK performing alongside the late Anthony Newley, whose legendary songwriting for the theatre has been a particular inspiration to her work.  After performing in the European tour of Phantom of the Opera, Lisa returned to her hometown of Seattle, USA, where she made her Seattle theatre debut at Taproot Theatre in Brian Friel’s Wonderful Tennessee, followed by the title role in G.B. Shaw’s Candida, Mary Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life opposite TV’s Grant Goodeve, and later, as Susan in Susan and God, plus multiple roles in Booth Tarkington’s Beasley’s Christmas Party.  

As a playwright and composer, Lisa’s recent work has been an indie film adaptation of her one act play for young people The Box, a one act play Burlap (in development), a short play for young people, Ringmaster, and the full-length musical play, Winghaven Park.   As a songwriter, Lisa’s songs ‘One Voice’ and 'My Heart Goes With You’ and 'By The Farthest Sea' have featured on BBC Radio, Premiere Radio, and ITV Television in the UK.  ‘My Heart Goes With You’ was commissioned by the Royal British Legion for the Centennial celebration of WW1, and was featured in a gala concert alongside Jools Holland and is also featured in the music repertoire for the global network of The Military Wives Choir founded by Gareth Malone.

Lisa is the Artistic Director of Drama Dock Theatre Company (dramadock.org) now in its 48th year.
